Important Legal Information
Prohibited Persons: Membership is strictly not available to any person prohibited under Section 21 of the Firearms Act 1968. This includes anyone:
- Sentenced to a term of three years or more in preventative detention, imprisonment, corrective training, or detained in a young offenders institution in Scotland.
- Sentenced to less than three years but more than three months, or detained under similar terms, facing a prohibition period of five years from the date of release.
Firearms Act – Section 21 Overview: Section 21 prohibits possession of a firearm and ammunition by anyone convicted and sentenced to three months or more in prison. This ban, which applies universally, including at approved shooting clubs or clay pigeon shoots where a certificate is not normally required, also covers other categories of firearms and ammunition like air-rifles or shotgun cartridges. A sentence of three months to three years results in a five-year prohibition, while sentences longer than three years result in a lifetime ban.
